 The Ambitious Card

A card placed into the middle of a deck returns to the top several times.

Required Sleights:  Double Lift; Pass; Paintbrush Move; Triple Lift; Kelly Bottom Placement

                   1.       With your left thumb, riffle the edges of the deck of cards.  Have the spectator say "Stop".  At that point, separate the parts of the deck and show everyone what card that person has selected to use.

                   2.       As you place the parts of the deck together again, execute the KELLY BOTTOM PLACEMENT, which will place the chosen card on the bottom of the deck.

                   3.       Have the spectator tap the top of the deck and then show that the person has caused the card to travel to the bottom of the deck.

                   4.       Double lift from the bottom of the deck and place these two as one on top of the deck.  Slide off the top card and place it into the center of the deck calling it by the selected cards name.

5.       Show that the card has returned to the top of the deck.

                   6.       Now offer to repeat the trick, this time with the card face up in the deck.  Remove the top card (the selected one) and place it face up somewhere near the center of the deck.  Push the card through the deck in preparation for the worst center steal you can imagine.  Palm out the card and immediately return it to the top of the deck by bringing your right hand over the deck and depositing it there.  (The poorer this is done the better.)

                   7.       Repeat this one more time, stating that it was too fast and that they probably missed it.  This time leave the card face up in the deck and pretend to steal it out again.  Hold your hand in a very suspicious manner.

                   8.       Advise the spectator not to look at your right hand, (show hand empty) but to concentrate on the card in the center of the pack.  Spread the cards and show that the selected card is in the center of the deck face up.

                   9.       At this point, obtain a break two cards above the selected card.  Square the deck maintaining your break and explain to your audience with GOOD eye contact that you are there to fool them, not lie to them.  During this statement execute the PASS bringing the selected card third from the top.

                   10.     Triple lift from the top of the deck indicating that you need a card to continue.  With your left thumb draw off the top card and lay it face up on the face down deck in your left hand.  Place the remaining two cards as one in your right hand onto this card covering about one-half of the cards.

                   11.     Remind the audience that you are aware that this is not their selected card, but you want them to name their card.  As they name their card have the spectator then say ,"Come to me (selected card)".  As they say that square all the cards with the deck and draw back the top card revealing their card.  Place the card in your right hand anywhere in the deck and offer to teach the spectator how to perform the trick.

          12.     Execute a DOUBLE LIFT and holding the two cards as one, bend to cards so that there is a fairly distinctive bowing of the cards.  Place the two cards as one on top of the deck face down lift off about one-half of the deck and with the thumb of your left hand, draw off the top card.  As you do this, your right index finger pushes against the top card of the deck and causes the card to appear flat.

          13.     Complete replacing both halves of the deck.  The left fingers and thumb apply enough pressure to hold the top card in place without allowing the bend to show.  When the spectator learns the magic words to complete the trick, allow the pressure on the top card to be released and the card will appear as the bowed card.  Slide it off and give the spectator their card as a souvenir.
